30th December Thanks to Mick for the new set of front
page photographs - all these from Peakirk indoor meetings.
28th December Click for some snaps that
give an idea of what happened at todays frostbite meeting.
27th December Frostbite meeting at Ferry Meadows
tomorrow, mid-day until dusk. From the forecast frost is unlikely, wind
speed reasonable and there might even be some sun shine.
25th December A
few days ago Jon sent the link to a video by David Gozzard from the University
of Western Australia where David quotes from a PMFC web page on the
"Peterborough Timer" and then goes on to explain and make his version of the
timer. Click the photo for the video.
Seeing the video caused me to go back through all
the Peterborough Timer entries. Click for the
consolidation page I made, which includes a link to a Ferry 500 timer for E20
competitions.
It turns out that David is a prolific video
producer on a wide variety of subjects. If you have a few minutes to browse
over the holiday period click on this title page.
23rd December Thanks to Mick for the "Seasons
Greetings" front page, which will be in place for the next few days.
21st December The American National Free Flight
Society web site is always worth a look - a recent e-mail from them
contained the Christmas card.
The latest CIAM Bulletin is available as a .pdf download.
Closer to home the Club Meetings on Friday evenings at Peakirk
are now listed for the New Year in the Meetings/Events link on the left, where
there are also full details of this evenings Christmas Party.
19th December Jon has spotted an article and plan
to go with the Cliche which was mentioned last March in "Further Information on
E20 Models" .
Click the Cliche for the original PMFC article and the new link.
17th December Just heard from
Alan Holmes of the Raynes Park MAC that the address of their web site has
changed. It is now updated in the links. Click their Christmas card for the web
site.
Reminded me that I had not mentioned "Sticks and Tissue"
recently.
15th December Thanks to Jon
for the link to this excellent selection of indoor models from the Czech
Republic.
Click the t/n for the whole set.
13th December Thanks to Mick for the latest set of
front page photographs, these taken during the Summer at Ferry Meadows.
Don't forget the PMFC Christmas Party at Peakirk, on Friday
21st, 19:00 - 21:00, details in Meetings/Events on left.
11th December I have made minor changes to the
weather page having come across Darksky, where local
weather enthusiasts report weather conditions.
9th December Just heard from
Karl Hube of the Thermal Thumbers of Metro Atlanta, where they have similar
interests to those of PMFC. Click the A-frame, (not too many of those at
Ferry), t/n for a gallery of their models.
7th December Some distance from rubber
powered RTP but the comment at the bottom of "Vintage RTP model" on Tuesday
27th got me searching for "Farnborough In Your Clubroom" and unearthed a number
of half remembered articles from the time when I was buying model magazines
with money earned from a paper round.
Click the "200 m.p.h at knee level" heading for the
articles.
5th December The PMFC magazine
edition "Last of the Summer Wynds" has been available to club members for some
time now.
Click the heading and those who are not members can download a
copy.
3rd December Congratulations to the Aukland Model Aero
Club on their 90th Anniversary year. Click the Anniversary announcement to
download the latest Slipstream where the editorial gives some background to the
club.

1st December I have mentioned Radio Control Soaring
Digest several times. One of the best on-line magazines, quality photographs
and articles, obviously mainly to do with R/C Soaring but often with excellent
general interest subjects.
The sad news is that the December edition will be last in its
current form. Click for the .pdf download, where the editorial "In the Air"
gives the story.
29th
November Thanks to Stan for the December/January edition of
"Slipstream", click the t/n for a .pdf download.
A new set of front page images for the web site. This time
thanks to both Bryan for the photos and Mick for dealing with them.
Don't forget indoor flying at Bushfield Saturday, 10:00 until
13:00
27th November Click the picture for the
first flight of this vintage model in 60 years at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario,
Canada.
Rubber powered, with a modern touch as the RTP pivot bearing
assembly was a
fidget
Spinner.

reminder for members to renew early or new members to join PMFC. The club
subs for 2019 remain at £15, with the BMFA subs at £38.
Could you please send a single cheque for £53 made out to
PMFC. Membership Secretary PMFC, Andy Sephton, 34 St Neots Road,
Sandy, Beds SG191LG.
24th November One for Bushfield? Click on the
t/n for "Flight of an aeroplane with solid-state propulsion" to read a very
technical description from the journal "Nature". (Depending on how the link
"works" you might only be able to read the first page of the report.)
Thanks to John P for picking up this BBC link on the same
subject. as well as Denis O
for the BBC
World Service podcast "Science in Action".
22nd November Continuing the mention of Aeromodeller
from 18th. There was a blast from the past in the "Particular Planks"
article. Click to see what Mick
Page was up to in 1969.
Don't forget PMFC agm on Friday. Also the Coupe d'Hiver event on
Sunday the 2nd is now at Barkston, not North Luffenham.
20th November Just heard from Chris in Canada, who
has finished outdoor flying for the year, as you can see by clicking the t/n.
Far Valley is rather more picturesque than Melton airfield.
Click for a video of a KK Achilles from September when Far Valley
was easier to use.
18th November The December
edition of Aeromodeller arrived Friday, another enjoyable read. Some web links
were mentioned.
Although
Solarfilm no longer produces it still has stocks that you can buy.
SAM 35 Year Book number 16 is for sale.
I was intrigued by an advert for
"The first
odourless light curing cyanoacrylate". Rather odd and seemingly a "teaser"
as I couldn't find where to buy it or its cost......
Click on the "Ferry Meadows, early days" t/n for
Prints-Online.
16th November BMFA 71st Annual General Meeting this
Saturday in Hinkley.

Nationals.
13th November Laser-Cut Planes from USA
specialise in light weight rubber models but also sell a "Dirt Cheap Torque
Meter" kit.
Click the meter for more details.
11th November You see the occasional model ornithopter
but there is a Dutch project, Delfly, that has taken things seriously since
2015 and have said "A major step forward has been made in 2018, when our first
tailless design, the DelFly Nimble was revealed. Unlike the previous designs,
this platform is controlled by its independently actuated wings, which makes it
very agile and allows flight in any direction."
Click the Nimble for the video. The whole of the web site is
worth a look, with further videos in the Media section.
9th November In an advertising
message about their "Royal International Air Tattoo" productions
Planes TV included a link to a
a 3 minute clip from the Vulcan and Red Arrows display at RIAT 2015.
Click the almost inverted Vulcan to see the
video.
7th November Thanks to Brian for organising the
enjoyable indoor flying session at Bushfield on Saturday. Click for some
snaps of the event.
Club meetings at Peakirk Village Hall in November. Friday 9th
- Bring a model night. Friday 23rd - AGM
5th November Micron Wings from Australia has done
some tests on geared motors suitable for small, electric powered models. Plus,
at the bottom of each page, a useful video reminding how to fit props to small
motors of this sort.
Click the picture for the motor in which you are
interested.
3rd November I think I
last mentioned this "ffmodeller" link in 2015, there have been additions
since then, including several videoed at Bushfield.
1st November Thanks to Mick for an excellent batch of
front page photographs from the BMFA R/C and Control Line Nationals.
Don't forget the indoor meeting at Bushfield Sports Hall, PE2
5RQ, on Saturday, 10am until 1pm.
Click for travel
details.
30th October The newsletters that Stan Yeo
from Phoenix Model Products produces are always worth a read, they give a
little background to the model trade plus useful tips and appropriate
comments.
Click the logo for a .pdf download.
Or here for Stans
website.
28th October Rather late with this as the Guild of
Aviation Artists 2018 On Line Gallery has been open for some time, well worth a
look. Click the Lancaster t/n for the web site.
26th October I have mentioned Soo Modellers from
Canada several times where Chris has a
cartoon of the week section. He recently sent me the
following:- Whilst looking for future cartoons, I came across this site, and
thought of you. Nice to see the famous "sherry bottle" on this first cartoon,
and also
to learn this brilliant artist's true identity: "Ernie
Sherry"
24th October The November edition of Aeromodeller is
just out with a double page spread on Flying Aces 2018 plus various PMFC
members reporting or appearing on other pages.
22nd October Well organised and well attended sale at
Buckminster yesterday which has pre-empted the PMFC Annual Auction at the first
of the club nights at Peakirk this coming Friday.
Then on Saturday the Midland Gala at Barkston.
17th October Thanks to Mick
for the latest set of front page photographs, from Flying Aces 2018.
Bryan has spotted that the catalogue is now available from
Gildings Auctioneers 20th Annual Aero Engine Auction - Saturday 3rd
November. Click the twin for details.
No "Latest Updates" until 22nd October.
12th October No "Latest Updates" until 22nd
October.
Don't forget PMFC Club night auction on Friday 26th October,
preceeded on the previous Sunday 21st by the BMFA Buckminster Autumn Swapmeet
& aero-modellers car boot sale. Outdoors there is the 8th Area on 14th
October.
See Meetings/Events on the left for more information.
9th October A web page that should have been in PMFC
links some time ago.
7th October Leaves are
falling and it is getting closer to indoor flying. Click the t/n to see the
carbon rods indoor building guide from Micron Wings in Australia.
Micron Wings have had mentions here before,
especially where PMFC gets a mention as a result of Ted and "the
bee", with a Peterborough timer. See bottom of the MW page.
5th October I have been
looking at some old editions of the Aeromodeller Annual recently, the ones that
had a pictorial dust cover which rarely survives.
Turns out that
RC
Bookcase has good scans of majority of the covers, contents as well.
3rd October Well into Autumn now, with both indoor and
outdoor events to check out.
Thanks to Bryan for a reminder of the PMFC Club night auction on
Friday 26th October, preceeded on the previous Sunday 21st by the BMFA
Buckminster Autumn Swapmeet & aero-modellers car boot sale. Also Gildings
Annual Aero Engines Auction on 3rd November.
Still some outdoor free flight comps to go with the 8th Area on

29th September Always enthusiastic about Gordon
Bennett here is the chance to follow the 62ND COUPE AÉRONAUTIQUE GORDON
BENNETT.
Click for information Click for a live map of positions.
Planes TV have just issued

27th September Thanks to Stan for the
October/November Slipstream from New Zealand. Wide ranging with reports from
both the southern and northern hemispheres.....
Click the Slipstream heading for a .pdf download.
25th
September Thanks to Bryan for :- "Exciting news from Old Warden-they
have just received from The Vintage Aviator Ltd. in New Zealand an Albatross
DVA. Seen being rigged for flight. Photo by Chris Brainwood." (Click the
t/n for a larger version.)
The Vintage Aviator Ltd. web site is well worth a
visit.
23rd September Sensible wind speed but a
rather damp end to the first day at the Old Warden "Festival of Flight".
Click the PMFC members for some snaps of what was happening.
20th September Old Warden at the weekend, at present
Saturday has the best forecast.
"Festival of Flight" is the title of this meeting.
From a non flight point of view don't forget Elaines stall for
excellent jams and marmalades as well as cakes. A regular now at both the
Nationals as well as Old Warden.
18th September Current wind strength is more suitable
for slope soaring than flat field free flight. In a recent RCM&E Simon
Cocker put in this links to dynamic soaring. Video
explaining dynamic soaring. "The 835kph Sailplane and Dynamic
Soaring."
16th September Just heard that access to Barkston is
not possible this weekend and the competition has had to move to another venue.
Those intending to go will know who to contact!
Thanks to Mick for the front page photographs taken at this
years PMFC Flying Aces.
14th September Heard from John that that the 7th and
8th Area meetings will be on Barkston. Midland Gala almost certainly at
Luffenham.
So its is Barkston on Sunday, with the 8th Area meeting on 14th
October and the Midland Gala on Saturday, 27th October.
12th September Click for the results of the PMFC
Free Flight Championship 2018.
John says "The final round of the club contest was played out in
almost flat calm conditions under heavy cloud. The Nene Park micro climate did
us proud. The Round Five column shows the results on the day, final column
shows "best four out of five." Congratulations and thanks to all who took
part."
10th September Click the t/n
for some snaps to give an idea of what happened at Flying Aces yesterday.
Don't forget the last of this years PMFC Club Free Flight
Competitions at Ferry Meadows tomorrow. See Meetings/Events on the left for
full details.
9th September Bright and blustery for Flying Aces
2018
Click for the
results.
7th September I missed Starloc Adhesives at the Nats
this year; click the logo for their web site.
5th September I have just
heard from Karl Huber of the Thermal Thumbers of Metro Atlanta (TTOMA), a club
with similar ideas to PMFC. TTOMA are interested in flying in a local country
park rather than have a long drive to their larger venue. Karl has been
comparing sizes between Ferry Meadows and his home park and looking at the PMFC
Flying Aces schedule to see what can be fitted in.
The TTOMA web site is worth a look, (click the club logo). The
"Thumbprint" newsletter is a good read.
3rd September BMFA Buckminster Free Flight
Gala. Bright sunshine! A big variety of models flown.
Click the picture for some snaps to give an idea of what was
going on.
1st September Thanks to Mick for his excellent selection of
front page "reminders" for Flying Aces, now just over a week away. The
"reminders" have been replaced by a quality set of photographs from Free Flight
Scale at the 2018 R/C and C/L Nationals.
30th August Another busy
weekend coming up, both Saturday and Sunday there is the Ferry Meadows 40th
Anniversary where club members will be running a flying event for children and
families on the field. Then Sunday there is the BMFA Buckminster Free Flight
Gala - see Meetings/Events on the left for full details.
28th August Had another look at
yesterday and discovered it would find
Buckiminster directly, listing it as an "Administrative
division, England (United Kingdom)" as well as "Populated place, England
(United Kingdom)". (Metcheck.com couldn't find it at all).
Click for some
ramblings on
"YR" and location findings. - - Also for changes to the PMFC "Weather page"
BMFA Buckminster have their own weather station attached to the
chimney of the office/house. You can get a
brief report from the
right of their web site front page.
Try here
for a
comprehensive report via the WeatherLink Network
26th August Click the picture for some
snaps of the action at Barkston yesterday.
Weather beat us at the SF Nats today - both events
cancelled.
25th August Whilst on the BARCS Forum, where the
possibility of F3K cancellation tomorrow because of the weather was being
discussed, the following popped up:- "Hi All, This may be of interest re the
weather reports as I tend to only fly at Buckminster and have found it pretty
accurate as it's relevant to the glider club that is just a few miles away". -
- -
Saltby
I liked the YR layout, plenty of information but presented in a
way it was easy to absorb, so I added:- Barkston Peterborough Then, as a result of a conversation Saturday
morning:- Croydon
23rd August If you wish to stay indoors
an alternative to BMFA Nats this weekend can be found in Daventry - click the
picture for details.
21st August Busy next three weekends; BMFA Nats over
the Bank Holiday, then the Buckminster Freeflight Gala on 2nd September
followed by Flying Aces on Sunday 9th. Further info for first two via
Meetings/Events on the left, with Flying Aces information from the link at the
top of the page.
19th August "Vintage Wings of
Canada" gets a mention occasionally for the quality of its articles about full
size aircraft.
With today being grey and wind speeds well into double figures
not much chance of model flying so there is time to read about
Yellowknife N3N.
17th August Thanks to Mick for an excellent group of
front page photographs that remind us it is not long until:-
15th August Click the
undercarriage for a 7min paper plane video.
13th August www.endlesslift.com - "We are advocates of simple model aviation!
We want to make simple flying models easier, better and more accessible to the
world!"
Has a "contemporary web design" and is another link that should
have been on the PMFC list some time ago.
11th August Click for a
non-aeromodelling outing the week before the BMFA Nationals.
9th August

Click for an extremely interesting web site, well
worth a look. Should have been in PMFC Links long ago....
07 August Bryan spotted:-
"Impington Village College - Cambridge. Indoor flying on 4th
November 2018, 9 am to 5 pm".
Always a good day out.
4th August See Meetings/Events on the left for further
details of todays Timperley Free Flight Gala at North Luffenham, as well as the
Grant MINLOCT special at Ferry Meadows between 16:00 and 18:00

days of very light winds. If so a Microaces kit could be flown outdoors.
Microaces is Making History, for their main page or a page
of videos
featuring their British rotary engined aircraft.
1st August Thanks to Stan for
a quality edition of Slipstream.
Click the cover for a .pdf download.
30th July August edition of Aeromodeller was out at the end of last
week, with page 6 on the
"Peterborough
v Auckland Cloud Tramp Challenge", 2/3 of page 7 on "Flying Aces" (see top
of the page), then various PMFC members scattered about the pages either doing
or having won things.
28th July Excellent group of front page photographs

Competitions.
26th July Thanks to Chris for the July "Echoes from
Far Valley"
Click the Elf for the article.
24th July PETERBOROUGH MODEL FLYING CLUB
MAGAZINE Celebrating 80 Years 1938 - 2018
June 2018 Fly Past
Now
available to the general public, click for a .pdf download
22nd July Excellent session at Old Warden yesterday, hot but
the wind was in a sensible direction for free flight and reasonably light.
Seems I was wrong in my 12th of July comment, no picnic tables
on the concrete and the tethered cars had their pylon in place and were adding
to the general interest.
20th July Another busy
weekend, with the East Anglian Gala at Sculthorpe and Scale Weekend at Old
Warden. For further details see Meetings/Events on the left.
I may be a bit late with this but the web site of the
Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden seems to have had a massive update. Click
the icon to see.
18th July John says "Thanks to Tony's assistance,
here is the up to date spreadsheet
after Round Four of the club championship. Members will notice that some
contests are already settled (sorry, Chris, but this is war) while others will
have to wait until the final round on September 11th. The Bernie Nichols Trophy
was won by Mick Page by a distance"
16th July Thanks to Mick for the latest set of front
page photographs, these from this years Free Flight Nationals.
A reminder of last weeks reminder from John:- "It is the
fourth round of the club f/f contest on Tuesday 17th beginning at 3.30 pm and
containing the final round of the Bernie Nichols trophy. Then comes the Scale
weekend at Old Warden, with the Masefied trophy and Earl Stahl event on the
Sunday. (Although I know that some of you will be at the East Anglian Gala on
that day.)
14th July The 2018 F3K European
Championship has been going on this past week in Martin, Slovakia.
Click the t/n for some photgraphs that give an idea of what was
happening.
12th July Now that the
concrete area at Old Warden that used to be used for tethered cars has been
covered with picnic tables the only place, at present, to see the models is on
the web. I was particularly taken with the "Pit Box 2018" (click the t/n) item
from "On the
Wire"
(See 22nd July note)
10th July A mention in the latest Aeromodeller
reminded me that the American web site
"Volaré Products -
Free Flight Model Aviation" is regularly updated with lots of interesting
items.
8th July At last a sensible windspeed for
a Retro Meeting at Buckminster.
Click Gareths Lancaster for some snaps to give an idea of what
was happening on Saturday.
6th July See Meetings/Events for full details of Retro
Fest at Buckminster, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then 6th Area Meeting at
Barkston on Sunday.
4th July Whilst waiting for
the forcast light winds at the weekend here are some cigarette cards -
"Airliners", bought in June or
"Civil" from 2012.
2nd July Just noticed that Derek Knight -
KP Aero Models, is not in the links pages.
That has been corrected. Lots of useful stuff for PMFC style
modelling there. Click the rubber winders for more information.
Link to previous "Latest Update"
pages.
