Click for some
snaps to give an idea of what was going on.
28th June Something of a dull start for the Retro Fest
at Buckminster, should brighten later but wind speeds likely to be in double
figures.
Click for the
"packed programme of activities".
26th June Chris Ottewell in
Aeromodeller mentioned Hummingbird Model Products, from Canada, as a source of
printed WW1 German lozenge tissue.
When checking the web site this morning I discovered HMP is
coming to the UK and setting up in Cambridge.
Click their logo for news of the move and then "Shop/Printed
Tissue for Covering". Lots of other good stuff as well.
24th June Mick managed to spot 9 First Place Winners
at the BMFA Free Flight Nationals and they are the photographs on the front
page for the next two weeks.
Thanks to Bryan you can
click for a copy
of the scale results from the FF Nats.
22nd June Another good article from Vintage Wings of
Canada, this time:- "The Sun or the Moon or the Stars - Celebrating 100 Years Since
the First Non-Stop Transatlantic Flight", in particular a large and
interesting group of photographs.
20th June Some dates have been added to calendar in
Meetings and Events. (On the left)
An event which has been in the calendar for some time is the
SAM35 Retro - Fest at Buckminster on 28th, 29th, 30th June. With the SAM
35 agm on 28th. Click for the
"packed programme of activities".
Whilst at Buckminster yesterday I spoke to Manny Williamson, who
was looking forward to the Retro-Fest. He hoped to have the hay crop cut by
then, but that was weather dependent. Manny, together with his volunteers have
a Retro-Fest exhibition planned for the weekend. There is also on site catering
this year.
18th June Additional information regarding the June
Aeromodeller article on the Ferry 500 can now be reached from the link at the
top of the page.
16th June Jon has just came across the
Texas Timers website at Rods recommendation, with Rod suggesting "How to Trim a
Power FF". There is also a "Helpful Hints" section which is worth a browse.
Press the Texas Timers button for the web page.
14th June If you are interested in model
engineering then Melton Mowbray is a good place to live, The local society has
a track and club house in Whissendine whilst there is the miniature railway at
Stapleford.
Click on the appropriate pictures to see some snaps that give an
idea of what went on at their shows earlier this month.

12th June Bryan has an interest in Lindberghs "Spirit
of St Louis", owning several books on the subject, so was pleased to get a half
price bargain at
"The Works" shop recently, where the Haynes Owners Workshop
Manual of the aircraft contained construction photos of a replica with
which it is planned to fly the Atlantic re-creating Lindbergh's 1927 flight
departing May 20, 1920.
Click
for the Spirit of St. Louis 2 web site.
10th June Thanks to Mick for the latest front page
photographs, a selection of PMFC members at the BMFA Free Flight Nationals
2019.
8th June A reminder from John "the next round of our
club contest is on Friday 14th, begin 3.30 as usual. Just received some

SAM 35
Scale C/L Event at Leicester Model Aero Club being held together with Schneider
Trophy Racing off Water and Class 1 Carrier Deck on June 16th
4th June Jonathan spotted this
Youtube
compilation of short clips of full size aircraft. Includes my favourite
"almost a roll" from the restored Vulcan.
2nd June Stan
Mauger, who edits, Slipstream the Bulletin of the Auckland Model Aero Club, has
just started "A periodic publication with news of interest to free flight and
control line scale modellers in New Zealand and beyond."
Click the heading for a .pdf download.
31st May Not come across
"Thermoworx - Melt. Make.
Re-use." before, probably too heavy for parts in models but very handy in
the workshop.
Would this "smart cutting machine" be of use in the workshop? I suspect it
would be too light weight to be used often. More information in Aeromodeller
next month.
29th May Thanks
to Stan for the latest edition of Slipstream, the bulletin of the Auckland
Model Aero Club.
Click the magazine heading for a .pdf
download.
27th May Plenty of flying could be done this bank
holiday weekend with BMFA Freeflight Nationals at Barkstone and BARCS 40th
Anniversary Radioglide at Buckminster.
Reasonably bright Saturday and Monday but something of a battle
with wind and heavy showers on Sunday.
Results, once they have been collated.

25th May Thanks to Mick for the latest set of front page
photographs, these from the first and second PMFC Free Flight competitions at
Ferry Meadows 2019
23rd May Canberra again but
then it is its 70th year.
"The Vulcan to the Sky Trust continues to investigate the
processes that will be required to return the aircraft to flying condition and
hope to have positive news later this year on a way forward."
21st May Trimming at Buckminster
yesterday - light winds and long grass.....
19th May I don't really need to remind you that the
BMFA Free Flight Nats are next weekend, especially as there
has been a message from John about a pre-Nats trimming session at Buckminster
tomorrow, Monday.
Further ahead and for a more spcialised audience is:-
Gildings "Annual Auction of Aero Engines" Saturday 2nd
November, Entries close August 30th.
17th May The June edition of Aeromodeller features an
article and free plan of our Ferry 500 class and includes some of the history
of Ian's developments and E20 flying in the PMFC.
The Peterborough FET Timer for Ferry 500 is not covered in full
detail so a video tutorial is provided here
as mentioned in the magazine.
A new motor has been sourced to replace the GWS version and the
club flying rules for Ferry500/E20 have
been updated to reflect this.
Aeromodeller have kindly given us permission to offer the free
plan as a download here. Click for the plan, along
with a parts sheet and extra photos of the model.
15th May Not too bad a
journey from Peterborough to Newark where, this coming Saturday, the Air Museum
have a "Canberra Saturday".
This year is the 70th anniversary of the aircraft.
Click the photograph for full information.
13th May Thanks to Mick for the latest batch of front
page photographs, these from the 2019 Northern Gala at Barkston Heath.
Old Warden yesterday had the best weather I can remember for a
very long time, light winds, slowly developing streets of cumulus, sunshine but
not too hot. An excellent crowd with a great deal of mixed flying done.
11th May Rather a "grey"
forecast fror Old Warden today, better on Sunday when amongst a lot of things
there are free flight duration events for Frog Senior and K.K. Elfs.
I always enjoy a browse at the Microaces stand, not this weekend
though.
Click to find out why and see their TRINANZA offer.
9th May Message from John:- "The results of the latest
round of the F/F Club championship are now on the spreadsheet. A reasonable
turnout, but once again with some luminaries unavoidably absent. Please
remember, folks, that the final score will be best four out of five, so a
missed event is not fatal to one's chances. Next round is on Friday 14th
June."
Click for the
scores
7th May I had an interesting day out at
BMFA Buckminster over the weekend where there was a three day aerotowing
meeting. Click the fuselage for some snaps to give an idea of what went on.
5th May A reminder for Tuesday, the next round of the
club championship, at Ferry Meadows as usual, starting at 3.30pm.
Next weekend is the Old Warden "May Fly". Should you want
somewhere to go tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, there is
Aerotow at Buckminster or
De
Havilland Day at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
3rd May Bit of a
difference to Ferry Meadows..... Christian has had a couple of entries on
his "Echoes from Far Valley" page in the
Soo Modellers
web site.
1st May Click for the
PMFC Magazine for March 2019 -

25th April April Issue of the
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre Newsletter. Click the Lancaster and
Mosquito picture for a larger version as well as the Centres plans for the

23rd April Master Class at Buckminster. The F3K
(r/c discus launched gliders) community were able to make use of the superb
Easter weather when Vincent Merlijn from Holland, the current F3K World
Champion, gave presentations in the hanger, demonstrated on the field and gave
tuition to individual pilots. An excellent and worthwhile session over two days
with plenty of time for individual flying.
Buckminster lends itself to this sort of event, comfortable
indoor seating for presentations and then plenty of room for demonstration
flying and coaching.
13th April No "Latest Updates" until after Easter.
Saturday evening, received the results of yesterdays club
competition earlier today but have only just had a chance to put them on web
site. Click for the PMFC Free
Flight Championship 2019.
John says:- "Despite the absence of several high-profile
competitors, the 2019 series of events got off to a good start, despite the
cold which made conditions uncomfortable for some. There was a flyoff in
glider, and CT was won by a single second, so competition continues to be
close. next round is on 7th May."
Saturday morning, Nothing to do with aeromodelling and
just a slight connection with full size flying but an odd coincidence.
Earlier this week I listened to a Radio4 Extra program "Open
Book - John Steinbeck Special", this was because Steinbeck was one of the first
adult authors I read when moving on from Biggles in my early teens and I
occasionally go back to his novels. The next day I received one of the mailings
from "Vintage Wings of
Canada", this was headed
"John Steinbeck, 609 Squadron and the Legend of Billy de
Goat", lots of interesting information, more about the goat and 609
Squadron than Steinbeck but certainly added something to the radio program.
If you wish to hear the "John Steinbeck Special" e-mail me and I
will send a .mp3 copy. [email protected]
11th April Thanks to Mick for choosing and dealing
with the latest set of front page photographs.
The first round of the Club Free Flight championships begins at
3.30 pm on Friday at Ferry, finishing at 7pm (prompt.)
9th April A link picked up from Chris at Soo Modellers
in Canada. "Inter-Ex
is the world of those devoted to experimental modelling".
7th April Click for some snaps of
yesterdays SAM 35 Spring Fly-In at Buckminster.
6th April Off to Buckminster later this morning for
the 1st day of the SAM 35 Spring Fly-In. Windspeed in double figures for most
of the day but no rain.
Hope to have some photos by this evening.
4th April Very much an "April Showers" type sky
yesterday, would have been exciting for full size gliders and reminded me I
have had a link from http://www.radiocarbonart.com/ stored for some time. Click for
the link to a video of the
USA 15 meter National Championships.
2nd April The Raynes Park MAC website, looked after by
Alan Holmes, has a new host and can now be found at
www.raynesparkmac.co.nf, where a link to the latest "Sticks
and Tissue" compiled by James Parry is available. Click for
the archive of
"Sticks and Tissue" which is stored in New Zealand.
31st March Next Saturday, Sunday and Monday is the SAM
35 Spring Fly-In at Buckminster.
Lots of flying apart from Sunday morning when there is a
Buckminster Swap-Meet.
I had not realised there was a Rushden Historical
Transport Society but there is and they have a R/C weekend on 6th and 7th
April. Click the t/n for a bigger version.
29th
March Thanks to Stan for the latest copy of "Slipstream".
Click the logo for a .pdf download.
27th March Thanks to Mick for the latest batch of

March
20th March Tom Tomlinson has his own web site with
aeromodelling initially on:- Clayton
Green Indoor Flyers but now on:- Norwind.
Worth a look at both to see why there is a change and read the
tribute to John O'Donnell.
18th March In February I gave
Easy Built Models from
America a mention.
They have a "Wings of Yesteryear" section with photos and book
covers. I was particularly taken with the mass launch by cap and bowler hatted
wearing modellers from 1934. Click the picture for the whole page.
16th March Juan Seren, from Buenos Aires,
Argentina, sent me a link to this excellent video of a glow engine assembly.
Click the t/n to view it.
Juan also has a
"Blogspot" which is well
worth a look.
14th March The "spot landing" competition
got a mention on 12th March, the prizes here have been various from a bottle of
wine, books and modelling accessories. The last one was an excellent set of
vintage wheels for a scale model.
The winner has a little background so click the wheels for more
details.
Last Friday evening PMFC meeting of the year at Peakirk
tomorrow. There is a change of subject, it is now "Bring a Model
Night".
12th March Pleased to discover
that Chris Brainwood made a video of the indoor session at Bushfield on
Saturday and has let us use the link. Click the t/n.
A good mixture of the flying is shown with excellent shots of
the quality scale models. Well worth reading the notes at the bottom of the
video for a description of the models.
The start of the video shows the "Spot Landing" competition
(held at the end of the session). Open to anyone, their model has to fly for 25
secs or more and the closest landing to the prize, which is placed on the
floor, wins. This and the "flight accuracy" competition are organised by Brian
L. The "accuracy" competition, usually in the 40 seconds range has reached the
stage that Brian is now asking for two decimal places on the stop
watch.....
Plenty of varied sport flying as well as the competitions and
serious trimming make for a most enjoyable session.
10th March Thanks to Mick for the latest batch of
front page photographs.
Excellent finish to the indoor season at Bushfield yesterday,
thanks to Brian W for setting those up. Very pleased to see visitors with a
quality group of models which they were trimming prior to the BMFA Indoor Scale
Free Flight Nationals are on April 28 -
click for details.
8th March Click the "flyers"
for the video "Two Guys Catch a Flight" that Brian W. passed
on.
6th March Saturday 9th March at Bushfield is the last
PMFC indoor flying session of the Winter. Sunday 17th March marks the last of
the Impington, Cambridge Winter Series.
Click Meetings/Events on the left for full details.
4th March Strong winds and rain yesterday
meant no outdoor flying, so a good day to visit the Peterborough Scale Model
Club show. (See 28th February).
There was an enormous amount to see and absorb. Click the 6
engine canard for a small number of snaps that does not do the show
justice.
2nd March Kits with an
international theme again, this time a British manufacturer with
a review in an the American magazine "Model
Aviation".(There might be a restriction that stops you reading this -
some times OK, some times not!)
Fine for indoors but not free flight this time, click the

another method of Forming Depron with Hot Water, click the t/n for the
video.
Already in the PMFC Technical aricles there are two other
methods. Click for
John Pictons version from 2012 and then
from Portugal.
I have also tried, using very low heat, "baking" round a mould
in the oven. With a method using hot water you will not get above boiling,
whilst with anything in the oven things can get out of control.
16th February The Vulcan to
the Sky Trust have just released an excellent air to air video of XH558. Click
the picture for some quality filming.
Next week is the "Tornado Farewell Flypast", the route on
Tuesday takes in Cottesmore as its first passing place. Times of the Flypast
have not been released yet.
14th
February

January.
23rd January From Boston in Lincolnshire, Retro
Modeller. Click their logo for their for, so far, a restricted number of items
for sale.
21st January www.fuelsoaked.me.uk from Zoe Quilter has
had several mentions. Just discovered that the original web site is no longer
available. However WayBack Machine, where there are apparently 345 billion web
pages saved,
has fuelsoaked.me.uk. No photos though.
19th
January Back to aeromodelling after two days of full size aircraft.
On the 1st of January, to celebrate the 200th "Cartoon of the
Week" Chris from Soo Modellers found a Tom and Jerry story.......
Whilst on the Soo Modellers web site their indoor flying for
11th January is worth a look; an innovative approach to fuselage construction,
amongst other things.
17th January There are plenty
of full size aviation clips on Youtube, many of doubtful quality but with
Planes TV that isn't a problem and their occasional trailers are worth a
view.
Click the BBMF for "our British Airshows 2018 season
retrospective programme, looking back over the RAF100 display season."
15th January Click their logo

newsletter and weekly restoration reports, (from Mid-November to April), of how
the work is going on returning Lancaster NX611 to flight.
Last Saturday there was a presentation in the hanger, with the

Servicing Tours,
click for details of the 5 available up until March.
Click for some snaps
taken of the Lancaster after Saturdays presentation.
13th January The latest batch of front page
photographs are from 2018 area meetings. Thanks to Mick for those.
11th January The American site
www.oldwoodtoys.com has a section "LETS GO FLYING!", where there are
details of 10 or so US firms who produced "toy" model aircraft. Something of a
nostalgia trip even though the models are from America. Click the gliders for
the web site.
Link from Chris Ottewell in a recent
AeroModeller.
9th January Leicester AeroNutz got a mention on 25th
December when I "consolidated"
pages to do with
the Peterborough Timer. I said then that the AeroNutz web pages were no
longer available, since then Jon has found them on
the Wayback Machine where the front page from 2003 has a photo
of Ted Szklaruk from PMFC.
The AeroNutz website and newsletters are well worth a browse if
indoor flying interests you.
7th January Just come across
the "The Vintage Model Aero Engine Page".
Click on the Frog 175 to see photos and drawings of those
listed.

In the web site links section there is
a list of
on-line publications that could be of interest to PMFC members. Perhaps you
could let me know of others that could be added.
1st January Denis Ogelsby sends me the occasional
science/technical e-mail. I particularly enjoyed his piece
"Surfing the
Mountain Wave", where he condensed information written by Bill Read FRAeS
from the Perlan Project.
